Amy Bloom: Writing to Be Read

On Saturday, November 21,  Amy Bloom did her usual star turn leading a workshop in creative writing at the Grove in New Haven.  Here's what some of the participants said:

"Anyone who knows Amy Bloom's fiction is familiar with how much meaning she infuses in each sentence. In her seminar she teaches writers how she does pulls it off.   She's blunt, plowing through many questions with a "who cares;" but with understanding--always in the interest of getting at deeper questions. It's hard to believe she covered so much information of great use to writers in such a short time.  This was one of my best seminar experiences ever."

"It was a pleasure to spend time with the writer who created so many memorable characters -- I've been a fan since Amy Bloom published her first book of short stories in 1993. She was engaging and engaged, giving each participant a chance to explore the issues that mattered most, from getting started, to layering details, to getting published. Her examples from her own life were vivid and intense, including remarks made by fellow writers of fiction. She was warm, friendly, and approachable, and seemed to enjoy the day as much as everyone else did!"
